Our New Kitchen

Well, it's actually been done for about a week or so now but I just got a camera to post the pictures of our newly redesigned kitchen.

See! No more burn marks!

And of course new lighting fixtures.

Doesn't it just look so nice with our furniture?

Gotta love those coffee bean walls.

I got a lot of crap for this kitchen mat. Ok, I know it's cheesy...but the colors are right!

These corners were probably the hardest part of the entire project. I had to measure each curve of the door jam exactly to cut the tile to fit.

And getting the tile to fit perfectly against the threshold was also a chore since I opted to not take them out with a pry bar.

Now we actually enjoy spending time in here and have *gasp* actually eaten dinner at the table a few times! I had a lot of fun doing this...could this be the first entry into my portfolio? hmmm.

In the building / painting industry people call that color "shit brown". Merry Washington is a huge fan of "shit brown" and totally embraces its comeback. Very nice choice!

I just put it over the old vinyl and didn't bother with ripping it out. You can layer vinyl a couple times. It's actually vinyl tiles so it was kind of tedious bc you have to measure the center of the room, place the tiles, and then peel each one and make sure they line up (and seal them also, especially around the stove and fridge, high traffic areas). Then you have to cut them to fit the uneven pieces. Yes, we had to move our fridge and stove which was kind of a pain. You also have to look at what kind of base molding you have (if any) and whether you need to remove it. We have rubber molding so I just lifted it and slid the tiles under. It's an intermediate level project but if you have patience it's not bad!
