My 27th or Don't Let Me Drink That Much in One Hour

Ok, I've been slacking on posting these. Here are the wonderful weekend of my birthday pictures. I was so happy that all those who came into town could be here to celebrate. It was a good time.

We got to meet Efrat's friend Joy (on the left) who is very sweet and was fun to hang out with.

Yeah, these girls were going camera crazy (I think I have about 20 pics of them in some form of this pose).

This was actually after the bar. I think about 20 minutes before I ran to bed.

I am enjoying a wonderful drink as you can see. I don't even remember what it was, but it was big and apparently you have to drink it all at once.

Hmmmm.

Still mad at Jill for leaving.

Baufefin reunited!

I don't know what were talking about here but I'm either mad at Jo or I'm about to puke.

Good times, good times.

On Saturday we took a trip up to La Jolla coves. It took us some time to find it because the directions I had were awful. I hate it when you can get an exit from one side of the highway but not the other...causing you to turn around over and over. We finally found it after some impatience and car sickness.

It was a little cold.

But beautiful as always.

This is one of my favorites.

The seals were really cute.

Because I Love My Girls

Yvonne and I braved LA traffic on a Friday because Marci was in town on a business trip and we couldn't let an opportunity to see her pass. This was the sight on the freeways during our ride up there....but it actually didn't take us as long to get there as I predicted. Only 2 1/2 hours. That's more like Saturday afternoon driving than Friday during rush hour. Despite the cold and rain (and I mean cold, 50 degrees), we got there before 5.

Casey met us at Marci's hotel where we spent an hour deciding where to eat. Actually, I should say Yvonne and Casey spent an hour deciding where to eat. Marci and I....well...she decided that she should give me a crossword puzzle clue she couldn't figure out. The clue: "Breakfast Duo?". The answer is 13 letters and the first six are "Lox and". What the hell goes with lox that is seven letters? Brooke, if you're reading this, help a girl out.

After our crossword fiasco, we headed to a sushi restaurant/bar near the hotel. This was an experience of its own. The guys who waited on us could not even tell us which rolls were which. We almost got into a fight with them over a roll they said they brought out, we insisted they did not, but had actually eaten. It was overpriced mediocre sushi. But Deborah came to have dinner with us which was awesome. Haven't seen that girl in years. It was great to see her. We discovered that we drive the same car!

After the restaurant, we spent another hour deciding where to have a drink. The vote was for "The Gaslite", a small karaoke bar nearby. Oh, Marci was not happy about that.

I guess I wasn't too thrilled, either.

Yvonne was just outright mad.

We walked into a small little bar with one woman singing karaoke and about three gentlemen in their 70s at the bar. This looked promising. Within 5 minutes of us sitting down, a guy came over to Yvonne, Deborah, and I and asked if we knew the words to "Mr. Jones and Me". I knew the words but was not about to admit that to him. He asked if we could sing it with him. I think our response was a distant stare, a shake of the head, and insistence that we were tone deaf. After he started singing, I thought we should have helped the guy. He needed it....for that song and the 12 others he sang oh so out of key. The bar picked up a bit and it became that trendy bar where all the hipsters go because it's cool to hang out at bars that are geared toward 70 year old men. But we all made our spot in the corner booth and had a good time.

Marci is still not too thrilled. She couldn't hide her hatred for these off key singers. It could have also been the drink prices that kept changing depending on who was ordering them.

But we made the best of it...and I think we actually had a little fun.

Deborah invited her friend Howard to meet up with us. He is the complete mirror image of Deborah in male form. Marci was convinced that they were meant to be together.

The real fun started when I began singing Kelly Clarkson songs and Marci interpreted them though dance. It was quite hysterical.

It was suppose to be a good picture!

Better.

We were suppose to meet up with some old friends from college. We told them we were at the Gaslite and that they should come meet us for a drink. They agreed. We get a call a little later saying that they went to the bar next door...an even cooler place where it was 80s night, drinks were $12 a piece, and it cost $10 to get in the door. We were not very happy about that. WE WERE RIGHT NEXT DOOR. You could have stopped in and said "hey, we're going to this other bar". But no, we stand in the rain for 15 minutes while they decide if they are going to come outside and say hello. They did, and then we said goodbye. We headed to another bar near the UCLA campus that was swimming with undergrads. It reminded me of several bars in Bloomington combined into one. For those of you who know Bloomington, it was like the Vid, Sports, and the Irish Lion had a baby. Very interesting.

It was a good way to end the night.
